PCLS Newsletter 10/14 – Culture Expo (文化展演)

Dear Parents/Guardians/Teachers:


Chinese Culture Expo (文化展演) will be held at PDS cafeteria this Sunday 2:30 pm ~ 5:00 pm.  The first class group (PreK, K and T5), please report to cafeteria before 2:30 pm. Other classes will go to classroom normally.  Please see below for details.


Messages from the Culture Director, Ya-ping Su:

Drawing Contest will take place on 10/21 and 10/28 in the cafeteria (1:00pm – 2:25 pm). The theme this year is “Year of the Pig”.  Please arrive at 1pm to check-in. Students should bring their own drawing tools, but sketch paper will be provided.  Please click this link to register your child(ren):

Registration deadline is Thursday 10/18. No onsite registration will be accepted. If a contestant is done with drawing on 10/21, he/she doesn’t need to come on 10/28. Any questions please email culture@pcls.org.


NEW Event in PCLS: Chinese Culture EXPO

Chinese Culture Expo will be held at PDS cafeteria 2:30 pm ~ 5:00 pm.  Calligraphy (書法), dough figurines (捏麵人), dragon candies (龍鬚糖), and weaving with plastic lacing (創意打包帶編織) will be demonstrated by experts from Taiwan. (see attached file)


PCLS students will visit this event in group. Schedule follows:

   2:30 pm ~ 2:50 pm: Prek, K, T5

   2:50 pm ~ 3:10 pm: T1, CSL1, CSL5, T6

   3:10 pm ~ 3:30 pm: T2, CSL2, CSL6

   3:30 pm ~ 3:50 pm: T3, CSL3, T7

   3:50 pm ~ 4:10 pm: T4, CSL4, CSL7, T8, CSL8, T9


PCLS lion dance team (T8, T9, and CSL8 students) will have a brief training with the lion dance teacher from Taiwan 4:10 – 4:40. Please move to gymteria (small gym / Badminton court) after culture demo is complete.


There will be some products available for purchasing between 2:30 pm ~ 4:30 pm. Limited amount of dough figurines (捏麵人), lion figurines (舞獅玩偶), dragon candies (龍鬚糖), and weaving with plastic lacing (創意打包帶編織) will be available.


Due to large amount of students participating this event, parents are NOT recommended to join the demonstration. But more than welcome to stop by the product selling table to support this event.  If there is any question regarding this event, please contact Sophia Liu at coupon@pcls.org.

2018 ANJCS Poem Recitation Contest will be hosted by Ming Hui Chinese School on 12/1/2018. If your child(ren) is(are) interested in attending the contest, please contact the Academic director in person or email to academic@pcls.org.  PCLS will pay the application fee for students participating in this contest. 詩歌朗誦比賽,朗誦具古典韻味、美麗詩詞,表現中文詞意及音律之美。多年前本校曾推派多隊參加,榮獲優良成績。

We are seeking Chinese language instructors who can help the next generation learn Chinese.  The teacher training and materials will be provided. As our school is growing, we need more teachers to ensure the good quality of teaching.  If you are interested in teaching or being a substitute teacher, please email academic@pcls.org.  We really appreciate your consideration.
