Incorporating TOCFL into Curriculum – PLEASE RESPOND TO SURVEY

PCLS is considering incorporating Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (for students over 13 yo) and Children’s Chinese Competency Certification (for students 7-12) into the curriculum and make it a mandatory testing that students take once every 2-3 years.  This would be a great opportunity for:

  • Students / parents:  to understand how the students are doing in learning Chinese. Parents can then plan their children’s future Chinese lessons or adjust the current learning method and pace.

  • Teachers: to understand how their students are learning the language. Teachers can then examine their teaching methods for future course plans

 

If this is incorporated into the school curriculum, this testing will take place during language class time – 1-2 hours depending on the level, and the related fee ($30-40) would be added to the tuition.

 

We would like to get your thoughts on whether you think this would be beneficial to your child(ren).  To make sure your voice is heard, please kindly provide your anonymous feedback in this Google form.  The result from this survey will be used to facilitate planning for the next school year.

 

PDS Facility Use

Friendly reminder – the outdoor tennis court and basketball court are NOT included in our rental agreement with PDS.  Please DO NOT USE them.

Chinese Typing Contest 中文打字比賽

The Chinese Typing Contest will take place at 12 pm tomorrow (4/20). For the participants, please be on the lookout for my email tomorrow.

 

  • 24-hour Chinese Typing Contest Period: Starts at 12 pm April 20, 2024 and ends at 12 pm April 21, 2024.

 

Chinese Word Recogntion Contest 中文認字比賽

We are excited to host the Chinese Word Recognition Contest on April 28, 2024 this year!

Fun Day 2024 – 夏日同樂會!

Fun Day will be held on 5/19/2024 at Rosedale Park at Pennington. To assist us with planning, please kindly take a moment to complete this Google Form. There will be food, night market games, field games and much more.  Mark your calendar, come out and have fun with other PCLS families! You don’t want to miss this!!

Culture Class Open House

Culture class open house is coming on 4/28/2024!  If your child is interested in trying out other culture classes, please sign up here by Sunday 4/25/2024. This would assist them in deciding their culture class selection next year.  Please note that culture class offerings may be different next year and some classes are subject to extra material fees and/or purchase of uniform/instrument if you decide to enroll next school year.

PCLS YoYo Contest – Registration now open!

The Google form to register for the 2024 PCLS Chinese YoYo contest is now open!  The contest will take place on Sunday 5/5/2024 during culture class time.  Students will perform a 3-3.5 minutes routine he/she put together to the music of their choice.  Registration will close on Sunday 4/28/2024. Please be prepared to submit an audio file for the music the contestant wants to use with your registration.

In order for the contest to start on time, the order to appear in each group will be determined by  “Wheel of Names” beforehand.  The contest will begin with the beginners’ group.

Featuring music and cultures of Taiwan, The One Song Orchestra insists on playing two kinds of music: music written by Taiwanese composers and music taking inspiration from elements of Taiwan. FASCA Training Registration is now open (For 14 yo+)

2024年僑務委員會「海外青年文化大使(FASCA)新生培訓」將於北美及亞太地區共12個城市展開培訓活動，報名於即日起正式開跑。紐澤西場次：8月2日至8月4日在 Best Western Rutgers University Hotel(195 NJ-18, East Brunswick, NJ 08816)、紐約場次：8月6日至8月8日在紐約僑教中心(133-32 41st Rd, Flushing, NY 11355)辦理，名額有限，歡迎14至17歲的台裔青少年踴躍報名參加。For more information and to register, please see here.

PTA Update

To ensure that all events and activities run smoothly throughout the year, please sign up for at least 2 parent duties. Only if the 2 duties are fulfilled, will the deposit be refunded. If you are able to spare more time to our community, we would be very thankful. There are still a few open slots left to sign up!
