PCLS Newsletter – 9/9 the first day of school

Dear Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of all the PCLS Teachers and Staff members, I want to welcome you and your family to the start of the new school year at the Princeton Chinese Language School (PCLS). With you and your child(ren), we look forward to making this another successful year.

PCLS First Day Details:

* Facility Location: Princeton Day School (PDS) – 650 Great Road, Princeton, NJ 08540

* When: 2:30-5:00 PM (if you need to register, please come at 2:00PM) on Sunday

Most of the PCLS staff will be at the PDS Cafeteria if you have questions. We will set up 5 tables: Academic, Culture, Parent Duty Sign Up, Registration, and Treasurer.

In addition, there will be maps posted on the walls and volunteers throughout the school if you need directions to the proper classroom for your child(ren). Most of the volunteers and TAs will wear PCLS Orange T-shirt or PCLS summer camp 大紅大紫 T-shirts (in Red or in Purple) for you to easily identify the helpers.

If you need to pick up your parent duty check from last year, please stop by the treasurer table 2:50-4:20.

Messages from Principal:

There are 2 files attached in this email: School Calendar and Student Code of Conduct.  When you register online, you already read and click “I AGREE” to Student Code of Conduct.  It is of utmost importance that we respect PDS’ properties and that students exhibit proper behavior towards teachers and fellow classmates.

Thanks to our consultant, Rob Kao. http://pcls.org was updated with News, School Calendar, and 2018-2019 Administration list. More enhancement on our website will be done in the next few weeks.  We want to use our website to promote PCLS and share valuable and updated information to our families.

Important Notes from Princeton Day School:

Parking illegally in the fire lanes: Please be sure to follow PDS regulations regarding parking. Tickets will be given for anyone failing to observe the regulations.  Please respect the law and park only in authorized locations.

Doors and Windows: Please remember to close all windows when the class is over.  Do not open the entrance doors to the outside in the lower gym area.

*** IMPORTANT: food may be consumed ONLY in the Campus Center (cafeteria) so that spills are confined to the file floor in the Cafeteria.  PDS has two renovated areas and they are quite strict about this policy. ***

Messages from Academic Director:

For the parents of younger child (Pre-K  to 1st grade) and new students – please go to language classroom picking up your child(ren) around 4:15 pm, then send them to their assigned culture classroom.

Due to the limited classroom setting (16-18 seats in most rooms), we may switch big classes to larger rooms as needed in 2-3 weeks.  We’ll keep parents informed on the weekly newsletter. We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause. However, the teachers and the staff will make the final decision in the best interest of our students.

Messages from Culture Director:

Seventeen culture classes are offered this year. If a student wishes to change the culture class, they can do so within the first 2 weeks and should notify the Culture Director first.  Eight classes have reached its full capacity (i.e., Beginner and Advanced Chinese Chess, Chinese Knotting Chinese Abacus/Mental Math, Dance, Story & Music, Painting & Drawing and Yo-Yo) and will not accept new student unless one switches out of these classes.

As a reminder, if your child is enrolled in a culture class that requires a $20 material fee (Chinese Knotting, Chinese Brush painting, Handmade Crafts), kindly bring an envelope labeled with your child’s name on the first day of class with $20 check.  Material fees are non-refundable. It is imperative that this fee is collected so the teachers can provide the needed materials.

For those that are new to Yo-Yo, you may purchase a taibolo from  www.taibolo-usa.com

Parents interested in participating in adult activities, please contact its class coordinators listed below. Note that Basketball, Badminton and Zumba will require the participants to fill out a liability agreement prior to the start of any activity.  All these 5 adult classes will also require a $50 facility fee. $100 activity fee or material fee might apply to some classes. Please contact the coordinators for details.
