As I have shared in summer, PCLS has been selected by Overseas Community Affairs Council in Taiwan in June 2021 to establish a Taiwan Mandarin Learning Center 臺灣華語文學習中心 to assist the implementation of the Taiwan-US Education Initiative, emphasizing Taiwan’s important role in providing Mandarin learning opportunities for students in the US and other countries.
There was an opening ceremony this past Sunday at Watchung Hills Regional High School for the two centers in New Jersey: PCLS and the Murray Hill School in Warren. See press release here
We are currently enrolling adults 18 and older to join our Mandarin class. Anyone who’s interested in the adult class, please email Justine at chairperson@pcls.org. Class will run during the regular PCLS class time. Watch this video to see the advantages of learning Mandarin in our center and in Taiwan.

Language Class Change
If you submitted a request for changing language class, I’ve reassigned a new language class to your child(ren) based on your request. Please be on the lookout for the email from the new class teacher.
Textbook
All of the students should have their textbook bundle by now. If not, please reach out to me at academic@pcls.org. If your child(ren) changes class, please return the unused textbook bundle to me. After receiving it, I’ll give you a textbook bundle for the new class. We are sorry, but if the textbook or workbook has been used, we can’t take it back. Please pay the $25 textbook fee for the new textbook.
Class Zoom link
The Zoom link will be sent out before 9 pm this Saturday, 9/18. If you don’t see it by 9 am this Sunday, 9/19, please contact me, but you may also want to check your spam folder.

Culture Class Changes
If a student wishes to change the culture class, please email me at culture@pcls.org with your child’s full name and 2 choices of culture classes by end of day Monday 9/20/2021. All changes are given on the first come, first serve basis. Priority will be given based on the timestamp on the request email. There were many changes this week so please double check the registration system to make sure your requested change was reflected correctly. As of today, all classes are still available except for Arts & Crafts.
Material Fee
As a reminder, If your child is enrolled in a culture class that requires a material fee:

$20 for Chinese Knotting – please pay to the teacher at material pick up

$10 for Crafts – bring a check (payable to PCLS) or cash to class on 10/10

$50 Uniform & material fee for Taekwondo 跆拳道, please bring an envelope labeled with your child’s name when you pick up the material or on the first day of class with check (payable to PCLS). If you already have a uniform, please bring it on 10/10 for the Master to see if it’s OK for this class. If it’s OK, you will only need to pay $20 material fee.
