September 29th is the Mid-Autumn festival 中秋節. May the full moon bring you and your family harmony and prosperity. 祝大家花好月圓人安康，春華秋實家吉祥．
Lion Dance Open House (for adults)
Did you know that PCLS offers a Lion Dance class for parents? The lion dance is one of the most important traditions at Chinese New Year. It is performed to bring prosperity and good luck. In addition, it’s also a great exercise that helps to build strength in the upper body and legs. The Lion Dance dads will showcase this unique art form between 2:20-2:30 at the Main Entrance. If you are interested, you can join a trial class this Sunday at 4:20PM in the Upper Gym. Please wear appropriate exercise clothing / shoes and complete a waiver before class.
T10 Guest Speaker – Grace Zhang for “Unusual Careers for Chinese Americans” *
The guest speaker for the T10 class’s “Unusual Careers for Chinese Americans” series will be Grace Zhang, candidate for State Assembly in District 16. Grace will be joined by her son, Kenny, who are both active community members. They will speak about their career path, passion for education and community services at 3:15PM in the cafeteria. Important Reminders

Parking – please don’t park in the closest 2 lanes to the building (see the yellow lines on the attached map) and use “Parents Parking” instead. These spots are reserved for our teachers. We will continue to enforce reserved parking. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

PCLS Student Guidelines – PCLS strive to build a supportive, nurturing and safe learning environment. It is the responsibility of the parents to review the Student Code of Conduct with your child(ren) and make sure they understand the behavioral expectations. NO LANGUAGE OR ACTS OF VIOLENCE will be tolerated.

ABSOLUTELY NO EATING in classrooms or in the building except for younger kids during recess. Younger kids are allowed to eat at the cafeteria during recess time.

Enter the building through only the Main Entrance (see attached map). DO NOT prop any other doors open. Students who go out to play in the playground during recess should return through the Main Entrance.

ANJCS Calligraphy Contest
The Association of New Jersey Chinese Schools (ANJCS) will host the 2023-2024 calligraphy contest on Nov 5th, 2023 at 1:30 pm at Bergen Chinese School. Please find more information in the attached brochure. If you’re interested, please contact me (academic@pcls.org) before Oct 7th, 2023 as I need to submit our registration before Oct 15, 2023.

Drawing Contest Registration – NOW OPEN!
Get your crayons and markers ready for our first contest this year! The drawing contest will take place IN PERSON on 10/22/2023 and 10/29/2023 between 1:30 – 2:25 PM at the PDS cafeteria. Students will have 2 Sundays to complete their drawing. The drawings need to be handed in at the end of the event on 10/22 and we will distribute again on 10/29 for the students to finish.
All participants will earn ONE coupon. Top 3 place winners will earn an extra coupon, a trophy, and have their artwork featured in the PCLS directory!
To register, please read the guidelines thoroughly and complete the registration form here. Pre-registration is required to participate. We will NOT be able to accept registration on the spot. The registration form will be closed on 10/20/2023.
Class Waivers
Students in the following classes are required to sign a waiver: Taekwondo / YoYo / Dance / Basketball
An email was sent to the students with a link to a Google form for electronic sign-off. Please take a moment to complete the waiver when you receive it.

PTA Update
Welcome back PCLS family!
To ensure that all events and activities run smoothly throughout the year, please sign up for at least 2 parent duties. Only if the 2 duties are fulfilled, will the deposit be refunded. If you are able to spare more time to our community, we would be very thankful. There are currently 19 open slots to sign up!
Please note, if any events/parent duty signups are canceled/moved, it is the family’s responsibility to sign up for another parent duty or the rescheduled time to fulfill the requirement in order to receive the deposit. It is also the parents’ responsibility to sign in at the event/duty to log the completion of your duty, otherwise, the deposit may not be refunded.
Any questions about your parent duties you can’t find on Sign Up Genius , please reach out to Suet Horhota, PCLS PTA Lead, while at school or at PTA@pcls.org.
